Hybrid Drawings
Spring 2016
These hybrid drawings were drawn as an extension of my Brooklyn Firehouse, but as a separate project in a separate class. These perspectives were drawn as hybrid drawings, including both analog and digital media techniques. They were made with a combination of line work from Rhinoceros 5, black marker, soft pastels and chalk pastel watercolors.
First, the selected perspectives were explored through inverted space drawing techniques with black marker to understand the abstract relationship between buildings and outdoor spaces. These were done on 8.5 inch by 11 inch paper and eventually exhibited at the 2015-2016 Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) National Convention.
Second, I explored the same perspectives through black marker, chalk pastel watercolors and soft pastels to understand the built portions of the project and outdoor spaces at more of a realistic level. I took turns illustrating the built portions of the project and the outdoor spaces with colors and textures that applied, along with shadows and scale figures. This was done on a 36 inch by 48 inch board.
Lastly, I explored the same perspectives through black marker and soft pastels. I colored both built portions of the site and outdoor spaces, but with mostly arbitrary colors that did not specifically represent the objects they did in real life. This allowed me to make the spaces become more abstract and open to interpretation with a new perspective on it. This was also done on a 36 inch by 48 inch board.
